ABOUT US

Cedar Heffelfinger and Sophie Rogers are both teachers and printmakers based in Uptown, Minneapolis. Both educators, Sophie has been a K-8 art teacher in the public school system in Philadelphia. Through the school district’s media literacy program they had a class set of cameras and audio recorders and ran similar workshops with students, teaching the history and importance of documenting young people’s perspectives on the world. In college Sophie also worked on Participatory Action Research and learned to do Community Based Asset Mapping. Cedar was an English teaching assistant in France and now teaches art classes at Articulture in Minneapolis. She teaches a range of ages and classes; her students span from 5 years old to adults. Some classes are more conventional such as observational drawing/painting and others collide mediums in unusual ways from textiles to printmaking. We are both moved by the way young people interact with the world and think they would bring a thoughtful perspective to this project.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

“Archives! For me and you,” is a series of workshops that offer opportunities to compile photos, oral histories, and artistic responses to the changes the Blue Line will make to the Near North and Willard Hay neighborhoods. Compiling the products, as curated by the participants, into an interactive archive map, this project hopes to remember the past, document the present and imagine a thriving future of the neighborhood.
